The Albany Plan of Union:
•The conflict did not only rage in North America but also all over Europe, India and had implications for the Caribbean.
•Even before the conflicts some American leaders had called for a union of the colonies but the urgent threat of the French and the Indians hastened those calls.
•The Colonial Congress met Albany New York.
•The Iroquois in that area had helped protect the English colonists because their traditional enemies the Huron's were allied with the French.
•The Congress renewed the alliance with the Iroquois and adopted a plan for a new union of the colonies.
•The plan for the council would:
–Regulate Indian Affairs
–Control a Colonial Army
–Manage Public Lands
–Pass Laws
–Levy Taxes for Common Defense
•The Colonial Legislature turned it down fearing they would lose power to govern themselves.
•The King also rejected it fearing the union might give the colonies too much self government.
